All I know is that without it I wouldn't have classical music on NPR. Reason enough to have a tuner as far as I'm concerned. However, I won't last forever and I figure it probably will die just like me. Alas.
Follow Ups:
Still some great FM out there be it independent college radio, WORT in Madison, or Public radio, in general (NPR/CBC/BBC). However, with budget cuts the more independent oriented radio may "Just Fade Away" unfortunately. Support the format that you like. Commercial radio is a whole 'nuther matter. Pandora, Sirius/XM, Spotify and their ilk will most likely go the way of the internet, with targeted advertising. I can still remember web services with out pop-up ads.
I also am a classical MPR listener. 90% of my music listening is on FM with my old Kenwood. I for one, will be sad to see it go, should that happen.
