This one almost seems like it has been beat to death, but in the Elusive Disc email flyer I got last night, they claim the QRP and Analog Productions finally have Roger Waters' Amused To Death coming out in July. James Guthrie has done the mastering, so it should have all that "Floyd-like" shine and sparkle to it!
This presents a pre-order dilemma for me- many have waited way too long for this, placing pre-orders in the past and getting burned. I just might wait until it is actually released, then take my chance on getting a copy.
Having said that, YMMV.

Not much of a risk. There will be copies available IF it is ever released.I've had three originals that I sold for stupid money. Too valuable for me to play. I'll buy this if it sees the light of day.

I'll start by saying that I began listening to Pink Floyd in 1970, and I greatly admire Roger Waters' work with the band.
With that out of the way, Art Dudley used to call Dark Side Of The Moon a sound effects record, back in his Listener magazine. While I understood what he meant, I never totally agreed with him, as I find the LP musically enjoyable.
But I would easily give Amused To Death the title of a sound effects recording. I have the Master Sound Super Bit Mapping CD, and while it's spectacular to listen to, it has a total of about two minutes of musical involvement for me, interspersed among the barking dog, the old man talking about the war, the horse drawn sleigh, etc.
I've read that most people think Lennon's Revolution 9 is nothing but a sound effects track, and consider it the Beatles worst "song", but not me. I pick up on a musical thread which runs through 9, and actually enjoy listening to it. I'd like to say the same thing about Amused, but it eludes me.
I'm glad you're looking forward to the new release, and I hope you enjoy it.
If I am asked to put a "sound effects" label on any of the PF/RW catalog, then yes, Amused probably would get my blessing.
I'd also venture to add The Wall to that list, given the amount of "foley" between the songs... Don't get me wrong, ALL the titles you've listed could easily qualify as "sound effects" records, but I still like the music for each.
I'll be buying Amused when it comes out (but not pre-ordering it), simply because I'm an Analog Junkie (and the Vanilla Sony/Columbia CD isn't so hot sounding, IMHO)!

I can't listen to it any more. As some here have commented in the past, it really should have been titled "Bored to Death".
...DSOM and Amused to Death.
Thanks! for sharing.
One of my favorites, and probably listen to it about thrice as often as Amused to Death.
P&C sounds like a really good Waters album. ATD sounds a little too much like he was trying to do another classic like The Wall or DSotM, but trying too hard.
without the "censored" artwork...
