Per V. Brüel co-founder of Brüël & Kjær died Shrowes Thursday at the age of 100

Wow, what a guy.
Bruel & Kjaer have designed and built the best stuff.
Back in the day, I used the 4133 and 4135 mics, and one of the chart recorders and SPL meters. Excellent products. The industry standard.
Later, B&K gave birth to DPA (Danish Pro Audio) microphones, considered among the finest mics available for recording.
Here's Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead using a pair of B&K mics with the "wall of sound", with differential circuitry designed by our good friend John Curl.
Yes, The Dead were obsessed with sound quality and in the 70's used our instrument mics (All Omnis) with all the awkwardness electrically. Doug Sax (also recently passed away) was a big fan. Levinson designed custom microphone power supplies to handle the 200 Volt polarization on those old mics. The B&K preamps can swing +/- 60 Volts yet have a noise output from a half inch capsule of ~15dbA - that's greater than 145 dB range!

It is with regret that I have to inform you that Per V. Brüel, one of the founders of Brüel & Kjær, passed away on 2 April 2015, shortly after his 100th birthday.Per pioneered the development of products such as a revolutionary level recorder and microphones that set a new standard for accuracy and stability. These products were the forerunners of the complete sound and vibration solutions that Brüel & Kjær's global customers depend on today.
Per had a keen eye for the customers' point of view. The Brüel & Kjær of today is shaped by his actions and vision. Our company culture, our pride in product quality and our focus on innovation all stem from the early days of Per Brüel and Viggo Kjær. If this company is synonymous with sound and vibration, it is because we still so closely identify with the beginning that Per and his partner Viggo Kjær gave us.
Even after retiring, Per led an energetic life as a sound and vibration consultant and as an active aviator. He celebrated his 100th birthday on 6 March in style, with nearly 100 guests at his home north of Copenhagen, and he participated in the annual meeting of the Danish Acoustical Society in March.
Our thoughts go out to Per's family and friends. May he rest in peace.
Best regards

R.I.P.
Yes, as the heart of the company I joined in 1983, Per Brüel treated the least of his employees, with the respect of his closest colleagues. I first met him at the opening of the North American headquarters opening where we played a little pingpong! He was in his late 60's then.
We spoke for almost an hour about audio reproduction and music 17years ago at an automotive sound and vibration conference in upper Michigan.
He founded the company with a RMS voltmeter, with always the goal of measuring to the highest quality always a premium product for a premium price. The colleagues I have worked with have a passion for knowledge, teaching - passing it onto the next generation. A legacy originating from its founder. He will be missed.

...but he had a good innings.
