... there were more DVD or Blu Ray releases of her live performances.
I've got ...
the LaserDisc version of 10,000 MTV Unplugged and the sound quality is to die for.
... Natalie Merchant - VH1 Storytellers ... good quality.
There are actually more live performances of her on YouTube than one you can buy on hard media.
Example below ... this is how she sounds today ... her voice is deeper, more mature.

Follow Ups:
Since re-becoming a fan of hers due to her work on Trinity Revisited and Leave Your Sleep I have looked for live video of her early performances. There aren't many to speak of.
I reccomend the DVD and LP of "Trinity Session Revisited". She, along with others, collaborate with Cowboy Junkies to remake the classic album in the Church where it was originally recorded.
See ya. Dave
Yes, you are right. There isn't much recent stuff on youtube, either. She doesn't allow recording devices in her concert. She caught two people recording last night, and took their phones away--and (pretended to call?) called one woman's father telling him she had been a bad girl. :)
I understand her reasons. These days it seems no one wants to actually "be" at the concert; instead, they want a poor recording to prove they were there.
I'm not really sure why she is like that ... maybe she is a perfectionist.
In the YouTube video I posted on Ted Talk ... she actually told the audience to stop clapping ... tone it down. Then she told them ... I'll show you how to clap to this song ... and she' so damn good, she gets away with it.
Anyway ... she is unbelievable live ... she has a real presence and palpable feeling to her music.
If you ever get a chance to buy the LaserDisc of 10,000 Maniacs MTV unplugged ... don't pass it up ... even if you have to buy an old LD player.

She did have to quiet the audience at one point last night...some people, with some substance on board, I presume, were getting rather out of control with their shouting. But she handled it like an old pro, which she is, of course.
Not great sound quality but you get the idea.
You would think that a singer who so powerful a stage presence live ... would have more releases on hard media.

brings dampness to my eyes.
Natalie Merchant, Michael Stipe & Billy Bragg - Hello In There
Yes, dampness to the eyes.
Thanks for posting the link.
