Stereophile's Bob Reina has passed away from cancer. In addition to being a fine audio writer and a well - liked nice guy, Bob was a very talented musician. John Atkinson posted on Facebook that the June issue of the magazine will include Bob's last review and a remembrance of him.
Follow Ups:
I loved reading his reviews of moderately priced loudspeakers. Even though I was never in the market for the products he so eloquently discussed, I always looked forward to reading his evaluations. When a new issue arrived I frequently read his review first. He was that good. I particularly enjoyed his short but sweet comparisons to similar loudspeakers near the conclusion of every review.
Good-bye, and thank you, Mr. Reina.

He seemed to have such a lively voice in his writing - I had no idea he was ill.

Well, what Atkinson is doing for Bob R is very nice, but why did he not
do somehing for Sam T? Sam is far more entertaining and insightful than
most anyone else on that staff.
A man has died you idiot. It was not some crybaby complaining of late checks or unsavory employers. How you can equate the two? I always looked forward to Bob's articles. He was objective and focused on affordable gear. He will be sorely missed. Sam, not so much.
May I respectfully suggest that this is not the time and place to shit on John and/or Stereophile in this manner? I find it classless and tasteless.

RIP Bob
I've read every one of Bob's Stereophile reviews since he came on board in '95. Very sad to hear of his passing.
So sad to hear this. His reviews were my link to budget speakers and comparisons between them. Will miss him. Rest in Peace.

Sad to hear. I enjoyed his writing.
Rest in Peace Bob, and my heartfelt sympathy to his family.

The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells."
Wow, sad to hear, RIP Bob .......
It seems only yesterday I was reading his own reminiscence of HP... .

Terribly sad news. His writing was so humane. May be Rest in Peace.
I had the honor to have Bob as my friend and "brother" for the past 42 years, ever since I met him at MIT (yeah, I'm one of those "frat boys" he occasionally wrote about :) ). In addition to being a fine writer, reviewer, composer, and musician, Bob was a brilliant mathematician, devoted husband and father, and a very funny person.
A "renaissance man" if ever I met one, he was at his happiest when he could share his passions with others; I think this came through in his writing. It was with his guidance that I moved away from mid-fi and into true high end music reproduction. He was generally more excited about me integrating a new piece into my system than I was.
Fare thee well, Bob.

Even from his article in Stereophile he came as a good guy.
RIP Bob. I enjoyed your work.
