HAPPY Pi DAY!I'm having blueberry as I type this.
Edits: 03/14/15Follow Ups:
I was too busy celebrating Steak and a BJ Day yesterday!!!
I think it's time for another nap now. ;^)
...that there is no such thing as a circle, and there's no such thing as a straight line. So it is no surprise that there is no rational relationship between them. The author hints at this in one of the last paragraphs.
Already after eight digits or so, you cannot empirically verify the number. So calculations going into the billions of digits are essentially meaningless (what equations are used to calculate these digits? Why trust them?)
It's like dividing something by zero. Since zero is also a mathematical construct which only means what we say it does, and doesn't exist in nature, we have to give an artificial answer.
I had blueberry pancakes this morning. And no, they weren't round.
Does that count as pie?
I thought Pi Day took place 422 years ago..........
The only problem is it's 2014 not 14AD. If numbers are to have significance, you have to use the correct numbers.
Crap I lost a year somewhere, it's 2015.
Lost a few years back in the 80's.
They're floating around out there somewhere.

How do you think we put a man on the moon? ;-)
Did Kubrick use a slide rule? I don't THINK so.
...he put man on a British soundstage. And it's quite possible he didn't use a slide rule as such. He's the type of person I'd expect to be using a Curta calculator, the next logical step in the evolution of the modern difference engine.
I heard from Clark Johnsen that it was all faked by Kubrick on a Hollywood soundstage.
...if stated elsewhere, due skepticism is warranted.

That would explain many posts around here I would associate with him that
have been posted under multiple monikers!
Most of which I enjoy...

Composites don't wear ties like he does.

I have seen it written that a man wearing a tie ... is signifying to the world that he can no longer get an erection.
OTOH, when a woman wears a tie (think Marlene D) ... she's proclaimimg that she likes to be on top! :-))

Some say it wasn't done... you seem to have further "proof"!
I have "proof" of absolutely nothing including my (and your) existence. But I do have faith ...faith that everything I read on the net is true.
So is the American standard of expressing the date with the month first.
Because I deal with customers and colleagues all over the world I tend to express the date as '2015-03-14' and then no one is confused. It sorts really well (when used in file names) and SQL Server likes that form in a query. ;)

of time.
if you used language - then there would be no confusion (January 1st or 1st of January).
numbers numb, leaving you looking dumb.

backwards in the UK. 14.03 2015 is the correct way, long before the Yanks got started.
Europeans tend to think in terms of day-month-year while our standard is month-day-year. That can lead to confusion when interpreting a date such as 03-01. Is that March first or the third of January?
As an IT guy we always use the Julian date for sorting purposes. Today is: 2457095
Not just Europe. Australia, New Zealand, India, North Africa, South America and a lot of others are D-M-Y.
Interestingly, China is Y-M-D.
US and Belize are M-D-Y. Canadians cannot agree and support all 3. ;)

Geoff
Sorta British - sorta American.
I like pounds, feet and inches, mph, and Month/Day/Year simply because it's easier to say "it's March 1st" than "it's the 1st of March" (use the active voice or some such thing). Prefer Celsius - water freezing at 0 degrees makes more sense to me.
Personally I write the month in letters not numbers. The order doesn't matter so much but because countries put them in different orders I want the month spelled Mar/March and this removes any problems.
I find it's the only way to avoid confusion when writing dates.
.
Today is 1403.
Your're welcome! ;-)

As audiophiles, we take what's obsolete, make it beautiful, and keep it forever.
Hey! I have a blog now: http://mancave-stereo.blogspot.com or "like" us at https://www.facebook.com/mancave.stereo
at 1:00 this afternoon. The place was packed.
Some 80 degrees out.
Good (though pricey) pies but not my type of place because it just isn't a joint.

observationalists?
Is that similar to bi-curious?
we like to observe. :)
Voyeurs. ;-)
That reminds me of Chance in "Being There".
Man that guy would have made a great audio reviewer!
my observations of audio gear are based upon getting out and hearing stuff - not speculating or relying upon measurements.
I miss your point.
...that he doesn't need measurements or 20 double blind trials to know he's eating blueberry pie. ;)
All Pi's taste the same.
Until you measure them.
Cool! I was not aware of that.
Here ya go:
MMM -Cherry...
Since Pi, when shown to four decimal points, comes out 3.1416 rather than 3.1415, I can only assume that we'll have another pi day next year.
Well, Saturday was truncated pi day 3.14.15, next year will be round(ed) pi day 3.14.16. Should've had truncated pi till then
Well, he says the first five numbers of pi's decimal expansion is 3.1415, which is true. He later uses 3.15159...
Look at it this way. He didn't want you to have too much pi.

...We got 3.14.15-9:26:53 (or 54 if you round) at least in NA. Next year all we'll get is 3.14.16 and just 3.14 for the next 99 yrs or so.
Damn clever

Geoff
