Here goes yet another push for 19.4 or 24.3 channels of surround sound.
AES engineers are as dumbed down as anybody.
Most of the spacial info is already embedded in the recording. They just don't know it because it's not audible and they lack the ability to make it audible.

So, for "surround" formats (so far) we've had SQ, QS, Discrete, Hafler Matrix, Dolby Surround, Pro-logic, AC-3, Q-sound, etc...
I enjoy good old stereo. With the speakers set up and listener in the proper position, you are there.

But binaural is not a format in the same sense but more a recording method. I always thought of it versus what we usually do as being similar to metering with a light meter. Reflected metering is most common and is similar to how we generally record music. Both require a good deal of work to get it right. Incident metering is similar to binaural, comes closer to not needing loads of adjustments and what the actual scene and music are to the viewer and listener.
