So i have not used audiogon in years, although i have seen many of the problems raised here. Just wanted to let the forum know, that i tried using Audiogon again this week, and nothing but problems. From exorbitant listing prices, to wacky bottom fishers, to buyers backing out of previously confirmed sales......yikes...nothing has changed. And Yes i posted on the trader here before going audiogon.
sorry for this message...just needed to rant a bit...

But the real question is effectiveness of those free sites.
I just sold 4 items on Audiogon, at, or somewhat below, my asking price. And, while I'd prefer it to be free, or at least for post-sale commission not to be charged - you can't have everything.
Regarding bottom-fishers - why does it bother you? And why do you think it's gonna be different at any other place? Either silently ignore them, submit counter-offer, or bluntly tell them to go fuck themselves, if it pleases you - the options are aplenty.
I concur- the "new" 'Gon is bad indeed.
If you look at Wendell's (Volunteer) post below, he has had 700 transactions and has no issues. Now as far as high listing fees, he clearly must see it differently and feels that he is getting fair value.
And you object to bottom feeders, and certainly he has had a few optimistic offers in all of his transactions, but he must just see it as part of the game. And yes, people do back out from time to time. I had that happen a couple of weeks ago on Audiogon, but subsequently sold the item for full price.
It just seems that what you perceive as issues are part of the nature of transactions on the internet. If you are not comfortable with those things there is always dealer trade in or giving to charity and taking the write-off in tax season.

I have bought and sold on Audiogon for years with no problems. A premium listing for thirty days of $50.00 is a bargain. Try Ebay and it will cost you 10% of final sale for a seven day listing. And that's not counting the Paypal fee!
Just bought an amp via Audiogon on Friday. According to FedEx it should be here Tuesday.
I haven't had any issues with Audiogon in over 14 years and more than 130 transactions.
There's always a first time but I hope not!
I was one of the first to use Audiogon. Many years later and over 500 transactions, never a problem.
Wow a Ayre AX-7e, you are getting quite a nice collection of amps at your place Abe ;-)
I saw one come up in great shape and at a good price via a dealer in S.CA. That particular AX-7e ad is no longer up. Yeah, too many amps around here. I plan to 'clean house' soon. These are excellent but I can't keep 'em all.- Rogue Cronus Magnum

I listed a pair of MIT speaker cables this Saturday, made a deal on Sunday, got my money Sunday evening via PayPal and shipped them out today. Buyer will have them on Wednesday. I have NO problems with Audiogon. 2 weeks ago, I sold a pair of speakers for 2K, again with no problems.
I don't see what your problems are with them.
"Far away across the field
The tolling of the iron bell
Calls the faithful to their knees
To hear the softly spoken magic spells."
I've used them since 2001 (over 700 transactions)without any of the negative experiences others have had.

You think a listing fee of $50.00 is too much for your $2400.00 amp? That is just 2.1%!
With no final value fees! Is that your idea of "exorbitant listing prices"?
"And Yes i posted on the trader here before going audiogon."
Why are you asking $2700.00 here on the trader?
The amp was also reduced In price here on the Aa trader from the original listing. Seems that reduction did not take. I edited it again. This was not the point of my postI am glad your transactions have been positive . And I also had dozens of positive transactions on audiogon over the years and met some great people also. I've been off and on there and here for over 15 years.
I should have been more articulate I my original post. I was skeptical of much of the anti audiogon postings in the recent past. However, my recent foray there after a long absence leads me to believe they may have been on the mark. In other words, just got a overall negative vibe this time after some absence. I hope it's a one off because as most would agree audiogon still has most excellent visibility.

Yes, well you reduced that price after I brought it up today. You have been off and on from AudioGon for 15 years, that could be problem for prospective buyers and you have an unrated sales history here on AA, no links to AudioGon or eBay in your Seller Info. Bottom line is, your track record isn't all that great. Your latest AudioGon feedback was 6/2012. Cool your attitude and you might sell something ...
