There are claims of sonic superiority of these new fangled pc based rigs. I say they sound different. But does that necessarily equate to as better? Back when the cdp-101 came out, even Holt said it sounded good. Only after time did he say it wasn't all that good. Now all reviewers seem to say they knew it wasn't any good at the time. I recall when the SCD-1 came out. It had wide reviewer praise. It really wasn't all that good either. It was wrong for all of the reasons addressed by Allen Wright, among others. Maybe someday everybody that now claim pc source superiority will claim they thought that pc was inferior to a good CD rig?

Formats and players will always follow behind.
Unfortunately for me most of the music I dig has already been laid down decades ago.
