For some reason the name Mungo Jerry popped into my mind this morning.
Felt good listening to this on another day of this interminable winter.
Like Randy Bachman said "it's better to be a one hit wonder than a no hit wonder".
What are your favourite songs for a cold winter day or your favourite song from one hit wonders?
Follow Ups:

Great song, lousy album IMO no wonder they disappeared so quickly.

I wouldn't call the Outfield a one hit wonder, as their album Play Deep had at least 4 very popular songs and was one of the most successful pop albums of '85.

Though I will forever remember watching a girl I had a terrible crush on in high school singing along to (Hey) Mickey when it was first released, I thinking I was going to die from the overwhelming rush of love/lust, so it has one of those strange fond nostalgia associations for me which prevents me from hating it!

I HAD TOO MUCH TO DREAM (LAST NIGHT)
Edits: 02/26/15
Hey, nice to remember the Electric Prunes! They were big for awhile due to their unique sound. Not quite a one hit wonder as after "Too Much to Dream" they had another hit in "Get Me to the World on Time." Even had a song in the movie Easy Rider.
I stand corrected! I guess I had too much to drink last night!
Wow, that's, i had forgotten that one yet watching the video, i sang /remembered most of the words.
Again thanks, what a nice way to end an evening!

Funky Nassau. I heard they came to the US to record their album but hightailed it back to the Bahamas once they got a taste of the music biz here.

They actually had several albums and all had good tunes.
And yet despite the look on my face, you're still talking.
For one hit wonders, AH-HA's "Take on Me" is right up there.
For winter songs, "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and the Papas is my favorite.
I love the latter, and can only just tolerate the former because my wife loves it.

...The Mamas and Papas actually had a lot of great songs and albums in the 1960s.
Check them out - I looked forward to their new ones along with the new Beatles albums every few months.
They were the first of the LA harmony bands, along with the Beach Boys, who led to the Byrds, CSN and the Eagles.
I understood middleground to be primarily looking for one hit wonders, but also opening the responses to songs that we love to listen to on dreary winter days even if not by one hit wonders. So I elected to give an example of both.
I know that The Mommas and Pappas were huge, so didn't mean to suggest that they were one it wonders. It's just that I couldn't think of a better song from the modern era that I enjoy listening to more in the winter.
AH-HA, on the other hand, pretty much defines the one hit wonder to me.
That said, now that I think about it, I gather that AH-HA might have continued to do other stuff that sold well in Sweden, just like Psy will likely prove to be a one hit wonder in the U.S. for Gangnam Style, even though he was very popular both before and after in South Korea. So, it's jurisdictional!

Talk about a one-hit wonder.
...the song "Sings" by the 5 Man Electrical Band.
...definitely one hit wonder but audiophile recording quality on that song.
...and plenty of great ones below with album covers.

The follow up That where I went wrong was also a bit of a hit.
Hocus Pocus, probably a result of all that great Afghani black hash in Amsterdam in that time...gets good at 1 minute....
Yeah that was/is a cool song LOUD.
Weird too, back then, I worked at a small loudspeaker company after high school with a friend from school.
While there, I re-wired Thijs van Leer's guitar after another friend from high school (Paul Hamer, went on to start Hamer guitars) had refinished it.
A couple weeks later, I got to see it on TV in one of those Simulcast concerts.

Unfortunately bruce springsteen sang the song on tour in Australia. He was hidden in shadows during the song which was probably best. It's on youtube.
Looking through these videos, the fashion choices we made way back when certainly seem odd in retrospect! LOL

New clear days is one of my go to lps.Trains is my one of my favorite songs.
I was about 14 when that song came out, and we couldn't stop giggling when we found out what it was about.

Today's earworm.
? & the Mysterians unexpectedly turned up in New York City in the mid '90s. For a year or so you could go see them in clubs around the city, as if they were just another struggling New York group and not a semi - legendary band that hadn't been seen for almost 3 decades. The amazing thing was that the band completely killed in concert, and the ageless ? had more energy and charisma than lead singers half his age. It was rather amusing that for a while in the 1990s the best live band in New York was a bunch of middle aged guys from Michigan.
You made me curious about ? and here is what I found on AllMusic:
"It only took one song, the organ-driven number one smash "96 Tears," to make ? & the Mysterians into garage rock legends. Eccentric frontman Question Mark (actually spelled "?," once he had his name legally changed) cultivated an aura of mystery by never appearing in public without a pair of wraparound sunglasses; he frequently claimed he had been born on Mars and lived among the dinosaurs in a past life, and that voices from the future had revealed he would be performing "96 Tears" in the year 10,000. On a more earthly level, the Mysterians' sound helped lay down an important part of the garage rock blueprint, namely the low-budget sci-fi feel of the Farfisa and Vox organs (most assumed that "96 Tears" had featured the former, but ? later remembered using the latter). What was more, they were one of the first Latino rock groups to have a major hit, and ?'s sneering attitude made him one of the prime suspects in the evolution of garage rock into early punk."
We all know the song, but are mostly ignorant about the guy and the group.
Gotta love the guy's attitude!
The follow up I need somebody was a bit of a hit, at least it got tons of airplay causing me to buy it.

Why in the WORLD did they film in front of that house! You'd think they could find a more interesting venue, but that makes it all the more fun to watch.
