How many of us think 'I can make this one part a little better' only to find that this simple tweak leads down the path of TWEAKING EVERYTHING else to accommodate the original fix? Sometimes, it's only a dial adjustment, sometimes it's equipment. All the same, why am I not completely content as is? I enjoy my various systems but...

is the keyword for me. I am content and was content before the several tweaks done that drastically improved the same gear I've had since 2003.
I don't think anyone being honest could be "completely" 100% content as (live) music can never be reproduced 100% by any audio system.
Things like room treatment are critical. I have also found that everything related to AC delivery to be a critical area. All unshielded cables and vibration control are two other important areas.
I am more content than ever and that is good enough.

Earl...when you say "all unshielded cables" are you including power cords? Just want to be clear.
i am too. Most days I listen to the music, some days the equipment. 'Today' I am completely satisfied.

"Tweaker, tweaker, can you tweak my speaker?"....
"Yes," said the tweaker, "I can tweak your speaker."......
and funny. Thanks.

Image you create in your mind from the acoustic signals reaching your ears requires the confidence that your brain can produce that perceptual mapping. When confidence in your system fails you - pushes you closer a bit to the realization that the actual pressure variations reaching your ears virtually no resemblance to the signal of the "live" event you are trying to imagine. You need a fix...I find the best fix is to instead relax, perhaps with a glass of wine, select some recordings you haven't played for a while - but are familiar with - and enjoy the marvelous illusion that is this hobby!
(And you thought using Alcohol to enhance your confidence was only useful for asking a girl or busting a lip.)
