CES is more about home automation and gadgets and automated this-and-that than about stereo or home theater. Have your coffee pot turn on 20 minutes before you get out of the shower. Control your garage door from anywhere in the world. Whatever.
I haven't been to one in 20 years for that very reason.
Hence the rise of other, "hifi-oriented" shows.
That's my take.
:)
5 floors of the Venetion and some exhibits at the Mirage were plenty to see over the 4 days of the show. This was also one of the best sounding shows I have been to. If you weren't there you shouldn't comment and yes I have been to 26 CES shows

As a design/build contractor that installs systems for today's 21st century home. It's clear one has never experienced such putting it in simple terms of a coffee pot or a garage door. It is far, far more than that making ones living much more convenient, comfortable, energy efficient and simply smarter in every way. I'm not going to educate here however, CES isn't an old timers audiophile show true. However, it is still a very amazing, informative venue that inspires.
Our wisdom - however much is left - is based on our past life experiences. Some of us have opted out of the audio-visual-communication revolution in favor of a less stressful world where people do not depend on the newest technology to rescue them from their mistakes and madness.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
But your point is taken. Still, passive systems are fine with me. However, technology that actively does things somehow feels coercive and rehearsed, reducing my sense of 'livingness'. But I'm sure I'm in a minority, and would happily live in a warm dry hut. With audio.
