I grew up hearing the B-3 and a Leslie 147. That IS the quintessential rock organ sound, IMHO. My uncle played in many prog bands in the early 70's, and I continuously heard him practice (he also had a mini-moog too and did demos on a Teac simul-sync 4-track open reel!).
He still has the all the gear, and IIRC, I get it all when he flies away from this mortal framework...
