Hi and yes !
Actually i found more confusing the silence ... the derision had some reasons honestly
Maybe the question is so silly that has left anyone without speech ?
The bad thing is that i have still the doubt ... about the SW test
If it is valuable or not i mean
Thanks for the kind advice.
Kind regards,
bg

Your question was not at all silly. From your comment about step response and square waves elsewhere in this thread, it seems likely that you know more than the posters who went silent. When the "expert" sawed off the limb these characters were clutching they had no choice but to go silent. To continue would make them obvious fools. Their mistake was opening their mouths in the first place.

Hi and thanks for the kind words
To be honest at school i was quite bad at theory
theory usually is based on math
And i think that this qualifies me as not particularly intelligent
But i have always been quite curious in applied sciences
I was better in the lab and liked that
And normally i believe in measurements
But in audio sometimes my faith in measurements tends to waver
The emotional part prevails on the rational
But i admire rationality
Thanks again

Well then, take a deep breath, relax, and think about a square wave for a second. What is it really?
A square wave is two direct current levels that are connected by an "infinitely" fast transition or "slope." The duration of the DC level defines the frequency; the amplitude is, naturally, the voltage.
I don't know about your speakers, but there is no way I would connect DC to my speakers. Imagine the damage you could do to a speaker by playing high level square waves through it with the cones pumping in and out with direct current at the duty cycle of the frequency.
Maybe if I was a speaker manufacturer and could afford to do "party tricks" with my speakers I would try it; but not with my speakers. Would you connect a 12V battery to your speakers? That's what a 12V square wave is, except that the 12VDC is being turned on and off at the duty cycle of the frequency.
Hi and thanks a lot for the very helpful advice
You are right it is really an abnormal condition of functioning
Maybe better to focus on distortion tests ?
It is quite clear that traditional measurements tell very little about the actual sound of a speaker
Still i see labs full of equipment
I guess that some test procedures are part of the knowledge of the designers
I was misled on this but something i read
But distortion measurements seem a more reasonable way of testing and maybe also to correlate with the actual sound of the tested speaker
No more question about SW ...
Thanks again
Kind regards,

Just be thankful that you almost never see their faces.
who in a vast majority are very misinformed having very little clue to signal analysis, acoustics and wave propagation, electrical signal propagation and amplifier behaviour. There are a few that do know about such things and they tend to offer valuable arguements.
Hi and i agree about Audiophiles being puzzling creatures
Actually i am one myself
But in that case they were "experts"
The "stress tests" are widely used in a lot of sectors
So a stressing signal can tell something
This said i have developed a huge interest and fascination towards raw drivers
They set the bar for obtainable performances
I am sure that in the future superior transducers will provide superior sound, with a resulting sound closer to the original.
Personally if i send a SW in i would like to get a SW out.
Kind regards,
