...presented to you by the Santa Clara Vanguard drum and bugle corps.
Made up of up to 128 (mostly) 18 - 21 year old musicians who spend their summers touring the country, practicing and perfecting an 11 1/2 minute show, and competing against other corps. At the time of this video, all brass instruments were key of G bugles.
As a young boy, my mother used to play a narrated version of Peter and the Wolf for me, that explained the instruments and their role in the composition.
Observe, before you think. Think before you open your yap. Act on the basis of experience.
I really enjoy the soundtrack from the movie "Moonlight Kingdom" which contains various excerpts from Purcell's work.
The piece has variations on the Purcell piece whose name I cannot remember and I am too lazy to go look it up.
That is such a great movie. I am a raving fan of Wes Anderson but that one might be my favorite. Subject to change ... might be Royal Tenenbaums tomorrow or Rushmore next week.
I credit that movie for getting me to listen to Britten's music. I had dismissed him, like so many things I have learned that are good, only to find I like what he does. Getting some great old ARGOs used at Amazon!
I knew Purcell was behind the music somehow. :)
There are many other tasty tracks on the soundtrack.
The Purcell music that Britten used for his variations "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra" is an air(or ayre is was then spelt) from music for the play "Abdelazar".Just to save you the effort.
Best Wishes
Pete
