I may have found a good price for this CD transport BUT can't find anything on it. No reviews, no documentation, nadda. The seller claims it is equipped with the Phillips CDM 9 transport mechanism. Is anyone familiar with this either? Could you give me an opinion of performance? What would you consider a good price for a mint RDD-980? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!Andy
Hi.
I used to own one of those. It's a pretty good transport, better than an Audio Alchemy DDS III That I compared it to.
FI magazine did a review of it a few years back. E mail me if you want me to look it up for you.
As far as the price? I paid $350 for mine used. Seems like a fair price since I belive it sold new for around $700.

I have an RDD-890 which I use with an assemblage DAC-2 in my second system. It's a good match for my particular DAC, but I only compared it to a Parasound CDP-1 (as a transport) and a Harmon Kardon CDP. I payed somewhere between 400 and 500 for my dealer's demo unit about two years ago. For the system I have it in, it's just fine. The one thing I don't like about it is that the digital output connection is an RCA jack instead of a BNC; you'll have to look a little harder to find a cable for it. All in all, it's a decent unit, but I suspect at this time, there might not be that great a price differntial between this unit and some of the better high end transports. Hope this is at least a little helpful.
