You most likely need to clean the rotary encoder behind the volume knob on the receiver.

Thank you for the response. If indeed that is the issue, it should be an easy fix. I will certainly pop the enclosure & have a look. Thanks again!
I agree that is where the problem lies but it may not be easy to get to the place that needs attention withing the control. Is the knob still snug and operating like when it was new or is it loose and sloppy compared to new?
Just getting to the control may be a pain in the ass and require a whole sub board to be removed to access it. Then the control itself may need to be removed from the board to be disassembled. Hopefully it won't be so tough but after opening many similar products its 50/50. Good luck and let us know.
Oh, since it works from the remote maybe you need only do something to disable or stop the control itself from randomly changing.

Yeah, last time I cleaned a rotary encoder on a receiver, it took me about 90 minutes of time to disassemble and reassemble the receiver, and maybe 5 minutes to bend up the metal tabs that held the encoder together, spray it out, then squish it back together.
The volume control knob works as new. I will try to remove the enclosure today if possible. Hopefully, access to the area to be cleaned won't be a PITA. With some pressurized air & electrical contact cleaner I might get lucky. Thank you for your thoughts.
OK. I hope it turns out to be easy or at least not a total pain in the rear!
