Due to a variety of conflicts and conspiracies (well it felt that way…) I had been unable to listen to my main system for a while. In the meantime, it was a lot of digital MP3 files and some vinyl on decent equipment that was not optimally set up. Yesterday afternoon, I was finally able to block out time for my main system. From the very first note, I could hear why my system sounds good; proper soundstage, great imaging etc etc. I had a wall of sound in front of me, extending out past the width of the speakers and to several feet behind the speaker plane. I could hear space between people and instruments, and when people moved around. Don’t get me wrong, listening to good music is still enjoyable regardless of the transmission mechanism. But hearing all of the special cues added an extra dimension to my enjoyment. Once again, I was reminded how refreshing and relaxing it is for me to spend time with my system. Something I cannot say after listening to other sources. Audiophile nervosa indeed.

Whatever? I'm into good audio equipment for a reason. Around half the recordings I own are not enjoyable on low quality "transmission mechanisms".

Sounds like a pretty awesome video system.
Give me rhythm or give me death!
" satisfaction I get is a little different.... Sometimes I'll hear some interplay or nuance from musicians deep in the mix.... Or an inflection or quirk in a soloist or singer that just pulls at your heartstrings..... These things make me appreciate a great performance ........" Yes and yes, and when the whole reproduced performance contains the lowest level details and those that can hardly be heard as in the character of the room-all of which I call ambiance raises chill bumps and gets a visceral reaction from me.

is hopefully MUSIC.I'm getting enjoyment from new new genre's of music even, i.e., even some Pop is entertaining to me -- as long as I don't have to watch a video to go along with it!

Ross-
not audiophile nervosa, think audiophile nirvana. Do not treat yourself so bad.
I feel your experience -
I recently swapped out my primary pre-amp for an alternate unit - and the difference was astounding - it has been a while since I changed any equipment - I need to get the Old unit back in the system!
