Thanks Abe.
I suppose that the microphone is the only input device, leastwise I don't know of any other way to connect a signal to it...
Even though I use an iPad 99% of the time I don't think my antique brain will ever really come to grips with it's limitations. But unless the headphone jack also works as an input...

I think you're right, unless it responds to an external Mic. There are other companies that make 'higher-end' scopes and spectrum analyzers for iPad / iPhone. However, at some point it makes more sense to buy the actual instrument.
Picotech.com makes a wide range of USB scopes that attach to your PC
'actual instrument'? How about an ancient Tektronix 30 or 60mhz dual trace?
How much is one worth today? Can you even FIND 'em? Get it fixed or calibrated?
Too much is never enough
Thanks again Abe.
I have a good scope but sometimes it's quite handy to have a second one. Especially an isolated battery powered device. The ipads are isolated and tidy and if they had so much as an audio line-level input might be handy...
Currently I'm using a really, really, really old hp desktop (resplendent with CRT monitor) and DSP SW to do FFT's and it works fine but I'm pretty sure that an ipad has more MIPs and would likely work great if it weren't so i/o limited. And it would be isolated with about 1000th the size and mass...
Dreaming on, Rick
