First, do you have room to place the two speakers several feet behind and above your normal listening position?
Then, some say yes, some say no but not many movies have anything in those last two channels ...yet.
Follow Ups:
I like 7.1. Had it for a couple years using DDex, and it does make a difference. My sides are bipolar and at 6'. Rears are at 7' in the corners. The effect is noticeable. I have to say that it is an improvement.

I actually do have the room where this system is set up. That was another thought of mine, that there aren't too many movies encoded that way. I suppose there is no harm in setting it up and seeing what it is like. Do you have any clue where I could find a list of movies recorded in 7.1? Thanks for your info. Much appreciated.

I answered my own question. Here is a site that lists BD's recorded in 7.1. http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=159814

How many have returned to 5.1 after 7.1? Room size can be dealt with. The limited content sounds great but IMO the job my receiver does matrixing the sides makes the surround experience simply mo-betta.
About two months ago, I converted my home theater from 5.2 to 7.2. I already had the extra speakers (all Paradigm Studio Reference), so all I needed to buy was some speaker cable.
I could have done this a few years earlier, but I "thought" there just wasn't enough 7.1 material out there. I went to same link as posted above and was blown away by how much there really was.
In my case, it was nice improvement over what I had. I just wish I would have done it sooner.
