Artists have been exploited from the beginning of R&R. The process of making money from other people's art has been an art in and of itself.
So many artists were never equipped to negotiate with a record label that works against the artist's interest(s)....
It doesn't mean that there aren't "better" situations to get into than Spotify. And, - it doesn't mean that Taylor Swift did not show courage, grace, and eloquence in her efforts to do better for herself.
"I deserve better" is a good first step. IMO, - something like Six Degrees Records would be better situation for everyone.
Oh, and, Spotify sucks....

so does Tidal (high res downloads) ... because there are numerous bloggers who can't tell much of difference between Tidal (full res) and Spotify at 320 kpbps ... on most files.

those kinds of things are often bogus in that they often don't reflect publishing, management, payback of advances, royalties.
When you dig deeper, - the truth is often different. Typical management fees are 20 to 25%. There is no detail in that statement. There is absolutely no specifics there: and no breakdown as to how much income is generated from music downloads, or streaming services.
Her issue is NOT 1. complaining that she isn't making enough money but of an exploitative model from, specifically, Spotify; and 2. Not talking entirely about herself. In the statement, she also really qualified what she said.
