Fanta, I love the pairing of the BAT with the Pass amp. It transformed my system and took it to another level. I had a Pass X1 preamp and the midrange was thin and I missed the tubes as I replaced a Van Alstine tube preamp with the Pass. The BAT is much more dynamic and has a lush deep midrange. Detail is better and bass is explosive and well controlled. The front to back depth is fantastic as is the width of the sound stage. The BAT VK-51se top end is perfect. The BAT has a little bit of tube warmth and darkness but not too much. If you are wanting a Conrad Johnson type sound then skip the BAT.I looked at an Atma Spere MP-3 preamp and an ARC LS27. Both sounded great and I preferred the $6K MP-3 to the $8500 LS27, but I liked the BAT even better and saved a ton as I bought the BAT for $3400 used (it sold for $9K when new). If you are considering a used BAT go for the VK-32se as it is a little more tubey. The VK-32se's used have come down in price as have the 51se's. There are a couple of 51se's for sale on Audiogon right now.
By the way, I just got out of an Insane Asylum and missed it so I figured I would join here.
