Hi Kidomaha, the Design Acoustics PS-10s were definetly made for a bookshelf even with a 10 inch downfiring woofer. You got to keep the tweeter and smaller woofer at ear level when sitting in your favorite Archie Bunker chair. If I remember right the 10 inch woofer down fires onto the speakers own platform. When you watch the You Tube video tho owner discusses the (foam rot) on the speakers surround. A lot of speakers from my 1 year college days were victim to this...Advent,Boston Accustics, but Dynaco speakers had rubber surrounds and you still see tons of them on ebay. Parts Express has refoaming surround kits and if your lucky speakers themselves. I got a ton of info on that speaker but it is in a storage unit which I will get to soon,I'm in the process of moving. I would be glad to send you some copies....Mark Korda

Thanks Mark! That's some great info. You are correct about the woofers firing down onto their own platforms. I've attached a few pics of the speakers. It's not real easy to get a good shot at the affected areas but these unfortunately do suffer from foam rot (both of them). When I get some more time, I will definitely look into Parts Express for a re-foaming kit. As for the info in storage, don't make a special trip for me, but if you do unearth that info sometime, I'd love to take a look at it. Thanks.

Hi Kid, I built a pair of monitor speakers in 1990 with 8 inch co-ax speakers from Audax. They have foam surrounds but still look and sound great. Maybe the foam was treated with something. I built a headphone amp kit and bought a pair of Grado-80's, about 100 bucks,a step above the 60's and gets 5 stars from Audio Advisor. I listened to them briefly and then shelved them for a couple years. When I brought them out again the headphone pads that were foam desinagrated in my hands, only 3 years after using. Grado sold me replacements but I never saw something fall apart that quick? Those were great pictures and you made me feel like I contributed...thanks Kidomaha.....Mark K.
Very cool. Unfortunately, I most likely lack the abilities to build much of anything by myself. I wish I could though. You did contribute. Thanks Mark!
