http://hometheaterreview.com/panasonic-brings-back-the-technics-brand/
Seems like Panasonic is wanting to dip into the high end, in my mind this is a "what are you thinking" moment. This gear will have to knock your socks off to get respect especially in the range they are shooting for. Past Technics to me has always been a decent entry level brand but I've never considered it high end or even approaching mid-fi. I do have to admit for the price their CD players with the MASH circuitry sounded good. Marantz seems to be the only brand I'm aware of who seems to get away with successfully marketing entry and high end gear. The writer did say though Technics had technology he hasn't seen before. As good as the Onkyo Reference looks I get the impression it hasn't taken off as big as the company might have liked. I know my thoughts here are coming out random but back to the Technics, it's also interesting that they didn't just start with a couple components, they have an entire system including speakers. This is an ambitious move.

In this biz and hobby- everything is cyclic.
Pioneer Elite, Sony ES, Onkyo, Integra and now Technics.
It is going to be an interesting 2015.
Perhaps the gear will be built in Japan?
I had one of those little close'n'play turntables, straight-line with the cartridge in the top of the case.
Wasn't the last word in sound but it looked COOL and was a lot of fun to use.
I replaced the stock cart with a Grado, big improvement.
But a $140 regular-design belt-drive Yamaha sounded better.
Still - it was cool.

I sincerely hope that Panasonic/Technics brings back the SL 1200 turntable new and improved. I think they could give Rega, Project, and others cause for concern in the sub $1200 category.

In the early 90s I had one of their cd players and found it quite acceptable. Prior to that I had used their turntables and also found them to be quite acceptable - much better than the Dual and Miracord units I had used previously.
Technics, along with Sony, JVC, Pioneer, and the rest, made a line of super-high-end audio equipment for the Japanese home market. Unlike brands like Accuphase, it never left the home market.
Best to think of this reborn Technics as Panasonic's version of what Pioneer is doing with TAD, rather than digging up past glories as a mainstream audio brand, or the DJ's friend.

How much $$ for the middle stuff?
Too much is never enough
$5,000 to $52,000 USThe $5000 is apparently for the amp/speakers AND DAC/streamer.
