This was posted for the most part in the Vinyl Asylum, but I wanted to bring it to the attention of inmates that do not post there. or read there, because there have been fraudulent postings of components other than vinyl playback items including, but not limited to an Audio Research SP-15 preamp.
There have been a lot of SME V tonearms listed for $1,100. Be extra careful with Audiogon on this and other fraudulent "too good to be true" items listed at less than their normal sale prices by just registered, no feedback sellers.
I offered to buy a SME V to see what would happen. My offer was to buy COD rather than Paypal to see if the guy would send it COD, and to see just what would happen. He accepted my offer, then would not COD, cancelled the sale, and then... Audiogon charged me a "backout fee" of $19 which I have never heard of, and I am protesting.
The seller's account now shows as suspended, but my "backout fee" still seems to be in good standing on my account.
Not whining, I just want others to be aware of what is going on there.

Hope they refund your backout fee especially considering the fraudulent seller.
Thanks Abe. They just informed me they waived the fee and thanked me for my business. I like Audiogon for a number of reasons. I wish there was a better way for them to screen our fraudulent listings.
I saw those "too good to be true" ads also. I seem to recall that the SME V started out at $1100.00 and went up a few times to $1600.00 I think.
I love the way Audiogon always likes to add insult to injury.
Nothing new under the Sun.
Thanks! for sharing jperry.
Hope they refund your backout fee especially considering the fraudulent seller.
