24 - 8 hours of sleep = 16
16 - 2 hours to fill and empty (eat/bathroom) = 14
Assumption #2; he hates the world, so does not travel, spend time with family, etc.
14 x 1.5 records per hour = 21 records per day.
5,000,000/21 = 238,095 days or 652 years.
If that was him in the movie, he better stop picking/looking through them and get started playing now!

And to think that audiophiles simply keep on playing a handful of the same LPs over and over again, like Patricia Barber's...
I was wondering about other 'human needs'.
I often enjoy an LP an eat at the same time...even been known to eliminate waste while the music plays. That gets me down to 507 years (but I only sleep 6 hours a day).
Thanks! for sharing. By my math somwhere in the neighborhood of 571 years.
