I had asked a seller on Audiogon why he chose a certain colorful phrase to describe the appearance of the unit he currently has for sale. I had referred to his own terminology in asking him specifically why a black faceplate is "badass." His rather strange, puzzling and convoluted answer:
(Name withheld) sent the following response to your question about “Bel Canto Design DAC3.5VB mkII + VBS1”:
What a sick world we live in! It hurts me when I am reminded that there are people who may never know the joy and excitement of owning a truely badass DAC. This subjective attribute cannot be neatly dimensioned/parameterized so consider Justice Stewart's classic description of his threshold test for obscenity: "... I know it when I see it". To realize this concept, you will need to situate this black DAC3.5VB mkII + VBS1 as the centerpiece of your newly improved listening room, sit back and proudly take in the view of your wonderful new DA stage. At that moment, you will never again wonder, "what is Badass?"- you will know it everyday when you see it. I am really sorry about your predicament. Please, don't go the rest of your life not knowing- click the "Buy It Now" button on this listing. You really do deserve to know- you've worked so hard you're whole life. And, you're worth it. Your time is now.... Congratulations on making a great investment.

?
I was going to say that, but did not dare in fear of the good folk who post here.
You seem to enjoy being spanked, so why the fear?

And who exactly "spanked" me?
More like a lynching started by a person on unfounded accusations.
The spirit of open and robust discussion and debate that once existed here has died long ago only to be replaced with the boosterism of the star struck.
...and you have certainly outlived your usefulness on this site.

Lighten up, dude! "Spanked", "lynched", "crucifed", etc.., it's all the same in the end.
Whichever one you'd prefer...

It would have to be written. I can only imagine trying to speak the answer with tongue in cheek.
"It's all fun and games until someone doesn't pick up on the sarcasm"
... I would not have used the seller's descript but on the other hand if I was the seller I wouldn't have replied to your query at all.
I think you should either buy the item in question or mind your own business.
But hey, that's just me.

Yeah, it's just you...
There isn't a prayer that I'd ever buy anything from anyone who spiels on like that.Sounds like he sells used cars by day. Apologies to used car salesmen who don't do televison commercial banter.
See ya. Dave

The seller appears to be excited (animated) about this DAC.
How about using an honest description in plain English which may actually mean something in lieu of florid excessive hyperbole which means nothing?
Lighten up, dude.
or maybe learn to read between the lines.
His answer was perfect!
