Who would have thought? You know a guy from Dallas a little bit from over the internet and it turns out that his in-laws live 4 blocks from you. Before you got here my wife was going through a list of things that started with "you know we have this to do and of course we still have to get that done." The we part of it seemed to be referring to me though. After you left she was saying "it sure was great that he stopped by." "What a fine guy. How did you meet him again?" "Geez! He sure can talk!" ;-) I'm glad you called and when you're back in the area give me a call and we'll see if we can find some of those folks into audio around here who we spoke of.
The project Dave is referring to is a pair of Linkwitz LX521s that I'm building. I'm flying a little blind on this as I've yet to listen to them. I've yet to find a bad review on them though or read of an unhappy user so that's something. It's a different approach in that the low level signals go to the 4 way crossover first and then eight channels go out to eight separate amp channels.
Follow Ups:
I heard a set of the Linkwitz Lab speakers last year at Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. They were impressively snappy little speakers. I believe you will be quite pleased when you complete them.
"Geez! He sure can talk!"
LOL
Yeah, cabin fever was setting in, having been at the in-laws for nearly a week. I'll endeavor to not do that next time!
:)
.
I think you find the LX project to sound pretty darn good when done! The man (Linkwitz) has been around the block a few times, so any information you can glean from him or his work is a good thing.
I had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Linkwitz a few years back regarding my own dipole design that I was struggling with. While we didn't exactly see eye to eye on some issues (mainly active vs. passive- my project used a passive crossover while most of his use active, of which he is a serious proponent of), he was a boatload of information regarding some of the math.
Good luck and happy listening!
"If the audio industry built gear that sounded as good as it did 50 years ago, there would NEVER be a need to re-issued anything!"
I just found out that he's going to set up a booth again as a joint effort with Madisound this year at the Rocky Mountain Show in the fall. I haven't been to a big show in a long while and will probably go to that one and have a long listen.
