I doubt you will ever sit and critically listen, but much of the genre features guitar virtuosos, extraordinary drummers, and vocalists who rival the best opera singers. If I thought you would give it a chance I'd link some recordings to argue my point.

Maybe when you had guys like Ronnie James Dio. Now they all sound like the Cookie Monster (see vids posted in this thread).
The good ones can play very fast, though.

..but Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, and Maynard James Keenan are all still going strong.
I personally strongly dislike operatic-type male and female vocalists, but there are plenty around.
It's just that the genre, as a whole, is not as popular as in 80's, at least not in US (the picture is a bit different in Europe).
