What kind of bs is that?
Anybody who says that any piece of equipment he is selling (especially large speakers!) has been sent back to the factory to simply be looked over is probably lying: the piece had something wrong with it and was sent in for repair and the person is trying to put as much distance from a losing proposition as he/she can while getting as much money as possible.
Sorry but skepticism comes with age.
Follow Ups:
I had a CJ preamp with a minor issue (don't remember exactly what) that I never bothered to fix. I figured a new owner might look askance at it, though, and had CJ correct it and check out the unit before putting it on Audiogon. No big deal, but certainly worth mentioning in the ad.
When I sold my MG-1 speakers I was PERFECTLY honest. They'd been factory rebuilt 3 or 4 years before sale, new grill cloth at that time AND I was the 2nd owner.
Simple…True and they sounded fabulous without buzz or rattle.
Too much is never enough
But were they "vetted"?
And they had ALL their shots. The Groomer said they wete among the nicest MG1s she'd EVER seen.
Too much is never enough
Not exactly guys, upon considering ad(s) like this, insist on getting the receipt of any/all repair(s).
Reminds me of the many ads where the it states the equipment was bought for a second system and never used. Riiiiiiiiiiight how many fall for that worn out line?
Consider that yes, there may have been something wrong with the unit, say a preamp with one output not working - something like that.
You send it in for service, they fix a minor problem, do a bench or burn-in test and send it back to you with a "clean bill of health".
Not wanting to sell something you knew had a minor issue, you go through this process so you can put it up for sale with a clear conscience.
And then someone complains about that. On Good Friday.
I suspect he see it as just another Friday, i.e. Black Friday, which is inevitably followed by Black Saturday, and then of course by Black Sunday, and then by Black ... continue to Black Thursday and repeat Ad Nauseum.
LOL

Black!
Nobody should feel that bad about something that doesn't really matter.
Yeah, I love those ads that say, just back from the factory 'with a clean bill of health'. (So what was wrong with it that it needed to be sent to the factory?)
The other one I love on so-called new gear is, 'opened just for inspection and photos'. (The guy tried it and hated it so it is now up for sale!)
I'm not saying these are all bogus but they do raise a red flag of suspicion with me.
"vetted" was got to me today!
I can just imagine calling Magnepan and asking how much it costs and how long it will take to get MG 20.1s "vetted".
"vetted" was got to me today!

It most be tough, finding something new to bitch about every day ... still you do seem to excel ...thanks goodness for AudiogoN, eh.

From Toronto hey? Figures... Probably from the Ford Nation...
Actually, this particular listing does specify the issue: "They are presently at the Magnepan factory to trouble shoot a mid-bass issue incurred despite “white glove” shipping. They will come back from Magnepan tested, vetted and repaired."

So I am right then...
My point was that the seller explained the issue and offered buyers a chance to verify condition with the factory. That hardly seems deceptive.
All equipment should be vetted.
"Everything should be vetted" Ideally, yes. I've taken it on the chin a few times!
