...here's a Blast From The Past

the few clips of audience members were fun. :-))

This performance, with Dion backed up by the "Del Satins", appears to be a lip-sync'd version of the original hit by Dion and the Belmonts. The Belmonts took their name from Belmont Avenue (located in The Bronx, New York) where they would sing doo-wop songs acapella (sp?) while hanging out on the street corner.
Cheers,
Al
Agreed re the Del Satins. Yes, the real Belmont Avenue....before gentrification changed NYC. The groups did actually sing on street corners, school hallways, school bathrooms. The history of Doo Wop music in NYC during the 5 years, 1955-60, was the story of incredible talent, incredible rip-offs by small time crooked record studios and heroin. Just check out the short, magisterial career - the rise and fall of Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers.
That song never did it for me.........

one of the great white Doo-Wop cats. One of the great moments in his musical life was when he steps forth from the group of fopur and just nails I Wonder Why..
Lucky to have him around, heroin spared him. Over the last few years he has released several albums of old blues stuff which is truly good. Still has that voice and can play blues like you would not believe
"I Wonder Why" remains one of my favorite uptempo late 1950s songs. It has stood the test of time. Yes, the opening bars nail the song.Dion and the Belmonts had 'the goods'.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
King Of The NY Streets which is very good indeed...
