the AVS2000 has a huge donut shaped device with a big clamp which rotates on top of it.
I would open it up and move the clamp around. (it is stiff, but with a good twist it rotates back and forth.)
Maybe it is just stuck?
It is a huge and heay device. but pretty simple inside. I would think someone with a bit of talent could get it working.

I haven't opened it up - maybe I will, I guess I have nothing to lose, right? I was wondering if it was actually *that* difficult to repair - as a stabilizer I assume it's a relatively uncomplicated design - that's why I posted here.
That "slider" looks like an old-fashioned variac.
