In Reply to: RE: Monster AVS-2000 out-of-warranty repair? posted by Scottson on April 02, 2014 at 17:11:35
The worse case is that you waste $50 on filing fees and whatnot and the best is that you get a judgement against Monster for $1,600. You'll cost them money though to show up and defend the law suit which may make you feel better.
How long has it been discontinued?
At the very least Monster should offer you a similar current item at a substantial discount, like the cost of repair as a customer service. You could try calling them, but that's a long shot.
Based on the reviews, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. It appears that everyone liked the product in 2008 until they all broke in 2012.
You could also buy a used one if you're feeling lucky.
Amazon marketplace $495

An old friend of mine worked for Mercedes Benz as a crisis manager I guess you would call it. When a car was just about to go lemon law or involve a lawsuit Ralph would go in and try to resolve it. I was asking him about some of his more interesting or stressful cases one time and he said a while back some guy wanted MB to buy back his 12 year old Mercedes because of a transmission issue. The guy filed in small claims, MB came with their lawyers, and the guy lost. On the way out of the courthouse the guy stopped Ralph and said "you ARE going to buy back that car". "How much did it cost you to have your attorney here today? It cost me $5o to file and I'm re-filing again tomorrow and will keep re-filing till you buy it back." MB kicked in some and the dealer kicked in some and they bought the car back.
My unit isn't actually discontinued - it's the Signature version which is still being sold - but it is out of it's warranty period. If I recall the conversation I had with Monster service previously, the agent claimed they don't repair - even within warranty - but replace with a new unit. The logic is that if the unit has died, then it's actually done what it was supposed to do ...
What a piece of shit. There you go.
Bingo!
