"mechanical diodes"?
Follow Ups:
..? Apparently, a "diode" can be thought of as...

And you are satisfied with your answer?
It's not my answer. I might be satisfied, though."Mechanical Diode"? If "di" + "ode" combined means "two-way", then a "diode" might signify any two-way transmission device - be it electrical or mechanical (for reasons unbeknownst to me, "diode" has come to signify a one-way electrical transmission device).
Yeah sure, why not throw all diodes together in the same basket? If you've seen one ode you've seen them all as far as I'm concerned...

plumbing check valves?
Overheard a Nordost rep at the Montreal show tell a guy there that they have these vibration isolators that are actually "mechanical diodes".
I presume his company took some creative licence there in calling them that.
I guess I could refer to the dampers in my car as "mechanical diodes" also for added interest.
Makes one wonder why no one has come up with a cone with point on the top and the bottom.
Luckily, companies like Mapleshade have also been selling "cones" (used as two-way energy transference devices) with points on both top and bottom, for years now.

Wouldn't they cancel each other out? Where do all the vibrations go?

Don't ask me where all the vibrations go. Ask the diode gurus.
Well, the mechanical diode concept for cones pointing down is vibrations go from component to the floor, which seems like an excellent idea, right? However, the same cannot be said for cones with points up, since that would presumably mean vibrations from the floor, produced the speakers, traffic, etc., go up into the component. If you've ever tried points all up on cones under a component you know what I mean.

As I've said, I'm not the one who might know.I suppose we should simply do that which sounds best:
- Points up.
- Points down.
- Points shakin' all around?
