I will be spending a few days in seattle and in Victoria, BC. I checked the archive for seattle stores, but there are no listings for victoria. Anyone know of any places to visit/avoid while there. I'd like to check out some bryston, classe, sim, and others that I don't necessarily get to hear here in chicago. Thanks for your help.
In Victoria, BC - Soundhounds at end of Pandora St. (beginning of one way and a little tough to get onto at this point - use map). For phone no. look up @http://canada411.sympatico.ca/
I walked in there not so long ago and the demo unit playing in the main part of the store was the top Linn stuff - CD12, completely triamped monoblocs, top Linn speakers (I don't know the model and don't care). What a horrible sound! When I mentioned the same to the store employee I got a lecture on how the setup was worth $CAN160,000. Was I ever glad to get home to my stereo. By the way they have some good-sounding stuff too.
thanks for the info. Do you think the set up was the problem, or was it the equipment?
I don't know - I'm probably not qualified to judge it but I'll take a guess: Maybe Linn put so much effort into this system that the music got tired and went somewhere else. Also maybe the sense of good sound is a very subjective thing and what sounds good to one person doesn't to the next and vice versa. And nobody's right or wrong. So if you get to Vic. look in at Soundhounds who likely still have that system set up and form your own opinion. If you do I'd like to hear back from you - my email address is on record.
Have fun!
I can't find the name of a decent store in Victoria; but they carry Linn, Totem and a few other good brands. Out in a neighborhood, away from downtown. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'm not sure about any others. Vancouver is the place that has some good stores. I live in Seattle, a bit of a wasteland. Definitive Audio has some decent brands, but turned to video. In Tacoma Curtis Havens, a great guy, owns Advanced Audio. He has quality gear.
