Somebody said if you havent spent at least $10,000.00 on A/V gear (mostly going into speakers and amps) that you arent getting great sound or decent gear... I know a Big TV is expensive and when you get into seperates you can get into high price margins...
Emotiva seems to sell some pretty decent gear that competes with the "big guys" costing several thousands more.
I do know when I do get financially independant and out on my own that I may do a bit of upgrading.... even bigger speakers, possibly some jbl Aquarius (vintage) or some new Klipsch's, bigass sub-woofer and tv every game console...

this was all bought new last, prices are paid prices, not "list". List would add $1,500 total. Of course this ain't the cat's meow but if I read yer post correctly decent was the standard and decent this is,Panny 65" plasma, $2,000
Denon 2311 CI Receiver, $650
OPPO BDP93, $500
Def Tech Mythos 6(7?), FL, C, FR, total $1,050
Two Mythos in ceiling speakers, $500
B&W ASW 750 Sub, $800That's $5,500 pd. for very well reviewed gear. It can energize our 14x22x10 media room just fine thank you. Great for movies and none too shabby for SACD/DVD-A either. Most room for improvement would be a higher end 65" Panny but this one works just fine for now/

My 2-channel stereo audio/video system retails for $5,000, however I only paid $3,000 but my TV screen is only 24 inches. Truth be told I'm more into the audio side and that is where most of the money went. However if I went to a 60 inch TV that would increase the retail to $6,500 and if I was interested in surround sound that could get close to $10,000.
Then upgrading other components could go over $10,000 so it depends.

I know I want klipsch I like the horn sound
Your initial post says, "...possibly some jbl Aquarius (vintage) or some new Klipsch's"
Now you're saying, "I know I want klipsch I like the horn sound"
For clarity, do you prefer any modern Klipsch, any horn sound, or something entirely different?
Dump all the video stuff and talk about 2 speakers a pre and a amp, then yes, 10,000 will get you going.
I would not spend $10.00 on A/V equipment.

Save you're money. There are no free lunches when buying audio equipment.
Of course, I don't doubt that it is true. Whether the average person would need or even think they are missing something like that, I would have to question.
However, yes, of course, a great video sound system would cost as much as a middle-of-the-road audiophile system. Why not??
It is probably completely true that many people build a $75,000 entertainment room and fill it with <$1000 worth of sound gear. They have no money left -- because that money went to their $75,000 auto.

I think $5000 gets you into decent.
$10,000 gets you into a pretty darned nice system.
$4K on real nice LED monitor
$2K on receiver / processor
$3K on speakers
$1K on player and accessories
That thing would rock the house.
Divide all those prices by two and you still have a pretty nice set up for most people's tastes, but perhaps not for a videophile.
Cheers,
Presto
consider that everything today is Dolby Digital or DTS. Consider that you need to use the identical circuit design for both regardless of the cost of the component.Consider that those chips are present in everything from a $200 AV rece9iver to a $10K processor.
A decent receiver with discrete output devices will come to well withoin 90% of the performance of the most expensive separates.
Of course if you're talking just stereo presentation, that's different.
YMMV obviously,

"I do know when I do get financially independant and out on my own that I may do a bit of upgrading"
Yeah, living in your parent's basement when you're 22 is a total drag. Well, except for the not having any expenses and being able to save every dime thingy. Heck, when I was 22 and living in my parent's basement, I'd already saved over $2,000, which was a LOT back in 1953.
"Independant". Ha! That was funny. Btw, "big-ass" has a hyphen in it.
lol
Ignor those goofballs.
The serious answer is, it depends.

I still have the tiny sattelite speakers that came with the sub-woofer but they werent loud enough so I substituted in the big speakers...
i might sell the little speakers..
there will be even bigger speakers soon, if i find them and then pay someone to ship...:D. I hope the next house has a basement lol..
I want a system so loud you can hear it far far away!
