Your tube choices are limited by the preamplifier's design in that it runs the tubes hard.

I've used the Japanese 7dj8 in other gear and it's warmer sounding then any Russian/Seimens 6922 type tried.

Used Siemens 7dj8 in a friends Mod 3, but they were in the phono section (russian 6h23's in the line section).

Anyway, Upscale says they (Japanese 7dj8) are durable enough for AI and they are inexpensive.
