Some of the internet radio providers have a station called Lush life and Prysock's songs are played on it. Perhaps this is where your friend picked up the information.

Johnny does a nice version on Impulse A-40 with Coltrane

I have an e-mail out to her about that.

I'm hoping to hear from her sometime soon.
to be the definitive version.
Strayhorn really liked the Billy Eckstine take on it, though.
Some say Prysock's baritone was heavily influenced by
Eckstine (ten or so years his senior, IIRC).

You can hear it in his early songs. There's a relatively newly released Verve collection, Morning, Noon and Night and even on the snippets you can her the influence.
for the OP..........oh well....

with Joe Pass on Pablo. That said, I'm surprised anyone is able to sing it - it's a bitch.

I love Ella, but Johnny Hartmann along with Coltrane own this song. The live version by Clifford Jordan on Mapleshade is worth the cost of admission. Ducking for cover now.
Thanks, anyway.
I don't find that song linked to him.

I'm looking for it for a friend. I did find an obscure reference to him doing it on a single on the Bethlehem label with Frank Rosolino as the leader but a review of the B discography doesn't show A.P. as the vocalist.
Is it possible your friend mistook Billy Eckstine for Arthur Prysock? Not to to say that he/ she did but it has happened before. Eckstine's beautiful version is on the record "No Cover, No Minimum". Prysock, while a great great singer in his own right, was heavily influenced by Eckstine and could sound a bit like him, especially earlier in his career... Anyway there's a lot of Prysock LP's in this house and I can't find it anywhere. Good luck...
quite a few Prysock LPs here - none with Lush Life

Prysock's version of "The folks who live om the hill" cuts it to my core. I wish that I could have heard him sing it with a small group in an appropriately small club. His round midnight, or whatever it was, greatest hits disc are mandatory purchases for standards listeners. Great music sung snd recorded properly.
