Please help. I am new to the asylum so I apologize if I should have found my answer by some other method.
We had water damage to our home and I lost all of my equipment. I had been so satisfied with the performance that I am unfamiliar with anything current. Can you suggest comparable replacements?
I had ADS L-710 Speakers, Yamaha R-9 Receiver (class A amp, 3 independent sets of speakers), Nakamichi OMS-7 CD Player, (Nakamichi BX-125 Tape Deck, and Kenwood KX-1030 Tape Deck. Since tape seems to be almost obsolete, I may not replace, but I am open to suggestions.) Also we have a recent Panasonic 42" Plazma TH-42PZ80U that may be integrated. Thanks for your help.
Follow Ups:
I just got through reading a review from 'HI> FI+' about the Denon DVD-A11 Universal Disc Player and the AVR-3805 Multi-Channel Reciever.
Anything more you'll have to buy is the speakers and if you have LP's, you'll have to buy a turntable. (The review was good.)
I don't know about the other gear, but your Nakamichi stuff is in a class by itself. I have an OMS-5 CD player, and it's still the only one I've heard that does not cause symptoms such as headache, agitation, or fatigue.
Here are three examples that I currently have, but don't recommend for redbook CD playback: Yamaha DVD-S1700, Denon DVD-2910, Alesis ML-9600.
The first two are universal players and both sound fine on DVD-A and SACD. I prefer the Denon.
The Alesis is a hi-rez digital recorder. Redbook files (44.1KHz/16bit) played back from the hard drive cause no symptoms, and CD's made on this machine are fine when played in the Nak - as long as the files have not been normalized. Hi-rez discs made and played back on the Alesis are acceptable - once again, as long as they have not been normalized.
I may be hyper-sensitive to digital artifacts, and didn't mean for this to turn into a rant.
For redbook playback I would look no further than a vintage Nak, but if you find some other acceptable replacement for the OMS-7, please post your results.
Best,
CAC

2. Do you want to buy new or used?
3. 2 channel or surround?
