...for puclic library in China.
During the last two decades, the number of none audiophile became audiophile is huge in China. There are different reasons of the efforts from different parties. One reason is that McIntoch China distributor gives out free McIntoch to public libraries. It gives the General public the exposure to hi-fi.
Here a link of some pictures of an open hi-fi meeting in a city (3 hours drive distance from Shanghai) public library.
They have in that meeting:
A professor from a music school talking about music
The Editor-in-Chief from a hi-fi magazine talking about the equipment.
The Head of the library was in the meeting to greet audiophiles and none audiophiles and gather comments on how to run the meeting better.
The library has 3 A/V rooms. It is the largest one.

... Refill.
I saw it this morning in the McDonald's of Times Square, but You would not see it any more. They took it off after lunch.Lie again.
.. seriously. it was in a busy restaurant in a New Hampshire tourist attraction I saw a few years back.
Every thing in the the first post are true and are described by texts and pictures. Except the fact of FREE McIntoch is unverified.
Let us giving. Let us all work together to promote hi fi.
Happy ThanksGiving.

Are foreign brands especially favored in China? I am surprised to see so much USA and European gear, (even 110V gear!) in your photo galleries. Also, none seems to be adapted to the Chinese market: All markings are in English! Do Chinese audiophiles prefer that?

yes, goreign brands have much longer history.
no, most audiophiles do not undrstand English
Then we should have free equipment donated to our libraries by 'Little Dot', 'Yaqin', and 'Dared'!!!
(just kidding!)

This is a really good idea -- maybe the best idea since AR (Acoustic Research) built a listening room in Grand Central Station.
That is way cool! Thanks for shareing that......
I believe it's McIntosh, and I can hardly believe my eyes!!!Prosperity and youth.
The 3rd person is apparently holding a reissue of Amanda McBroom's Dreaming recording, right? I have that on CD.
I am happy to see women there. Previous version of this reply asked about the young girl, but apparently that is the librarian.
Bob Levi (LA/OC Audio Society), check it out.

Bob, yes, the girl in red in front of the screen is from the library, she run the meeting. it is a good idea to have a young and pretty girl to run a hi-fi meeting. it must be the McIntoch distributor's idea againi have learned a few points here.

Billy Kim and Bob Levi
Members listening...
to this setup (guests were Luke Manley and forgot)
I am not Bob Levi, but a member of LA/OC Audio Society, and the meetings (like the one in LA AudioVideo) are like this. That particular dealer sponsor is Billy Kim, a Korean who reportedly has a store in BJ. Under past meetings one can see many meetings with gear and the society people.
I am Chinese (American) with interest in things Chinese. Esp urban China.
LA/OC Audio Society is well run and very active. Obviously, because you are a member.
but having a hi-fi listening room in public library is definitely different. it exposes hi-fi to general public
my wife read this, that's her home town.
But now we are proudly citizens of the great country founded on the principles of the Scripture and we give thanks.
Happy Thanksgiving. (btw, listening to the latest from... see link)
Surprising, that the listening group is both small and orderly.
How was admission controlled?
Every public setting I visited in Dong Bei was over-run with visitors.
I also wonder about the availability of new software to play - given the sorry state of intellectual property controls in the middle kingdom.
I suppose LPs won't be easily duplicated.
i do not know. but not an issue, all public libraries in china are open to public.
i think that they have enough software. most of the time they listen to classic and chineses music. audiophile or none-audiophile, the same. if you go to hi-fi shows in china you only hear classic and chinese
