The times keep changing. Then again what else should or could they do?

This is the original article from the bbc web site which they were summarising.
It gives a bit more context.

No, not the Walkman/Ipod comparison, I'm referring to what a crappy paper the Chronicle has become. I mean, seriously-were those few paragraphs supposed to be any kind of 'article', and in a major city daily? Infuriating, because it was an interesting topic, but apparently edited down for the Ipod gen's instant-gratification attention span.
I'll just cling to the hope that the printed version was a bit more fleshed out. Please.

It wasn't. Straight wire service drop-in into the business section which is now compacted into the local news section.
Those daily newspapers left are getting more pathetic and sad each year, but the Chronicle seems to have had a major headstart on most of them!
And if you think the Chronicle has deteriorated, the SF Examiner stinks worse than any fish that could be wrapped in it!

Thank the god of my choice I've still got LPs to listen to.

and awhile back I decided to stick an old Billy Joel tape in it. My gosh, I thought my head was going to explode! How did we ever endure those things?

The same way we endure MP3 playback nowadays......
In all fairness, the recording has probably deteriorated over time. Especially if it has been in the car over all those years.
