Greetings. I live in Arizona and need to send my Krell amplifier in its original packaging back to Krell in Connecticut for repair. The freight company I contacted, who deals with Krell a lot, suggests to place the package on a pallet for safety but only offers insurance on total loss only. Any external/internal damage to the equipment would not be covered.
I'm not too sure how comfortable I am with no insurance coverage on damage. How safe is a 79 lb package rested on a shrink-wrapped pallet for air transportation ? Any past experience or opinion would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Shipping an amp like a Krell on a pallet is quite safe, particularly if it is in factory packing and strapped to the pallet. In fact it is the safest way to get the amp back to the factory as hand carrying the box is almost inevitably going to lead to its being dropped. That is recommendation of Krell itself, last time I checked. If a fork lift drives through it then claim for the whole unit.

Back in 1998 I bought some cables from your shop. Good to see that you're helping people around here.

try to find another freight company, insurance is important

You are correct. I mentioned to the freight company I'm sending it for repair and probably that's why they don't offer any insurance coverage for damage. Lesson learned.
