Follow Ups:
A bit cheeky perhaps, but "the Beatles box" or whatever it's called; neat roll-top case, and contains every official Beatles album on CD (sans "hits" complilations) plus the "Past Masters" pair. Around $330, IIRC. *All* Beatles albums are essential!Of course, the entire catalog is being digitally remastered soon, so I'd wait on a big splash like that; in the meantime, particularly if you've got a treble knob on yer stereo, "Beatles 1".

That is the only asnwer. There is no such thing as the greatest Beatles album. Their ouevre is a complete whole that one needs to progress through chronlogically. It is the story of the growth of a band and the powerful impact they had on a whole generation of the world's populace.

decided to give him some primers. Abbey Road, Rubber Soul and Disc 2 of The White Album. But that is just a rumor I heard. Oops, they were all UK versions, so it was just a rumour I heard.

...erudite little magazines in the two U. countries -- and not a bad one either -- *and*, tellingly, the first to include the same song selection in both countries. I refer to -- Sgt. Pepper!
Sgt. Pepper's is the most over rated and balyhooed album in rock history. Hope you still need me and feed me (all your great Classical music knowledge) when I'm 64.

"London Calling" The Clash!!!!

I think the "novelty" of SPLHCB has worn off for most true Beatles music fans, leaving the musically superior, more sumptously crafted "Abbey Road" near the top, along with the honesty of "Rubber Soul" and magnificence of "Revolver". For me, I'll take the "K" versions of the "U" countries you mention, and I grew up on the "S" versions...

And their albums least likely to see any play by me are Sgt Peppers (yes, a masterpiece, but I played it 10,000,000 times already), Magistal Mystery Tour and Yellow Submarine (I pull that out only to play Bulldog) and Yesterday and Today.

I'm with ya! At this point Sgt. Pepper's is more of a "nostalgia" listen - the LEAST likely reason I'll listen to anything. I still dig MMT at times though. There's just somethig about "I Am The Walrus..."

that there is a range to their music that enables one to have something that appeals to you that may be different for someone else. So it is up to you to find what you like most.

You would go for the white album. Their best? Dunno, but it is their most diverse and a splendid showcase for the individual talents of each individual. Ok, I'm also very fond of the very first Beatles' album I purchased: Rubber Soul. In that one they grew up and left behind that Love me do shit. Abbey Road may be their very finest and it is right up there with these other faves of mine.So now you know my 3 favorite Beatle albums. I would not be without any of them. If you want to decide among them, that is your decision.

you want just a collection of great Beatles' songs get the blue collection. Get the red collection if you want to hear their interpretations/influences/roots. If you want to experience the breadth of their writing talents get the "White" album. If you want to hear two great Beatles records get "Revolver" and "Rubber Soul". Timely and a marvelous concept recording is "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"."Abbey Road " I choose to never be without...

RUBBER SOUL my fav
Lyrics for: In My Life
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remainAll these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them allBut of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something newThough I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more(Instrumental)
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more

White Album. I think it's the most diverse in terms of musical influences.

... diving into psychedelia, their horizons expanding(Revolver) or emerging on the other side older an more mature, and also knowing it was all over (Abbey Road).
These are definitely my favourites.

Howdy"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" or "Abby Road" in my book :)
Heads means Rubber Soul, tails means Abbey Road.

every time i hear the song yesterday.i always think about how i never did anything with my life
and how i have nothing to look forward to,
except when i get dirt thrown in my face and grey hair i already have.
You know, when you have such deep dark thoughts of despair, and 20 minutes later you are laughing your ass off over the Three Stooges.
