I see so many different brands and different countries of orgin. The mA ratings run from 750 to 900. I am looking for something that is quality and will last for my portable headphone amp. I see many types on Ebay as some pretty low prices. Thanks for any help.

I got a charger and Sanyo 2300mAh from this site a few months ago. The batts perform excellent with my shoe mount flash, portable cdp, point and shoot digicam and etc.The charger is excelletn. It really dose keep the batts much cooler while charging and it small and cheap.
I never tried the AAA that they sell but you might want to check it out.

they have helped quite a bit. I noticed that the nicad I used to used for my flashes stored 1100 mA's. That is a far cry from the 2400 now possible with the AA NiMh and the charge time is shorter.Thank you again,

We use NiMH cells mostly. What we have found is that although they are initially 3000-3300mah when new, their ability to store reduces over time. For example, a 4.8 volt set of sub-C cells which were rated at 3300 when new actually held just over 3500mah when new. Now, 40-50 charges later, they only hold around 2500mah. We never had this problem with NiCd cells, which could often still hold full rated power after 200-250 charges. I guess that is progress for you.Our preferred cells are GP or Sanyo. They are around the most expensive but they are the best. If you want good, reliable cells go to a Radio Control specialist.

Have been using these for quite awhile. Their chargers are superb and the batteries are available with various capacities. Not cheap, but very reliable.
Hope this helps.
PS. You can order direct or do a google search for online distributors.
I am not connected with this company in any way other than a consumer.
Hope this helps.

I use Digitor (China) in my digital camera and I'm very pleased with them - they outlast single use Duracels by at least 5 to 1. See linky - it is a bit out of date, but it shows that you generally do get what you pay for, though some of the mid priced batteries can be excellent performers. You must use a compatible charger and do not overcharge.

... the worst enemy of Ni-Mh batteries can be the charger. Ni-Cd chargers will charge too quickly as I understand the situation. It is important to use a charger designed for these batteries. There is a lot on the net about this topic.
I picked up some 800 mAh "Do-Co" Ni-Mh batteries in Singapore earlier this year & they seem ok. However, where they rank in the heirarchy I do not know.
Correct thought but it seems the problem does not lie with AAA battery which has little improvement in capacity beyond 900mAh over the years. If the charger output is about 200ma, (very old type) the charging time still can be around 6 to 8 hours, assuming a charging efficency of 70%.The obvious problem rests on AA and C battery(medium cell) which can now reach 2500mAh and 4200mAH(koka),respectively. You've got to buy the original OEM battery charger to cope with the AA battery, (around 1 A output)fortunately now sold in package of charger plus 4 battery either from Sony, Sanyo or Panasonic. I got C type battery for my Maglite torch but didn't upgrade my charger and after charging the battery overnight, it drained down quite rapidly. I did measure the output of the charger, which was only 200ma, so it would take 30 hours to recharge the battery. So, I bought a GP rapid charger with output at 400mA,seemed to be the highest in the market, still needed around 14 hours charging time and battery got very hot. I am very happy with the battery performance and I did a discharge test by the torch and it was close to 4000mAH.
It is not a surprise to me. In industry, I did find that some battery could only be discharged at 50% capacity because of wrong selection of charger and voltage.

I've had great luck with AAA batteries by maha - But for the more common AA I've had great luck with pretty much all the brands I've tried including whatever they're stocking this month at Target or Wal-Mart.

I still think very highly of Cary gear but had that itch to try something different. Found a great deal on the Krell KSA-50S in near mint shape... same for the Accuphase CDP. Always wanted to try these highly regarded older pieces. And still having fun as usual!

exciting to get gear that was highly regarded but in a cost range that I would not venture. Its like buying a great car that someone else drove off the parking lot and took fine care of.How would you compare the sound?

"How would you compare the sound? For the Krell KSA-50S vs SixPacs, the Krell is significantly more dynamic with exceptional speed, impact, detail, and transparency. The first thing that stands out is the bass impact. The amp takes control of the speakers and I'm able to play them much louder without 'strain'. I guess the term that comes to mind is 'effortless'. On the other hand, the SixPacs are still more transparent, harmonically rich, with better 3 dimensional soundstage. I prefer the SixPacs for jazz and vocals.
I've been listening to lots of blues and rock music along with home theater so the solid-state amp has been a good fit. Wish I could afford to keep both but for now I'm enjoying the old 'baby Krell'.

since I have modified my Six Pacs with a "good" feed to the filaments instead of a saw tooth half wave rectification, external 100uF ASC motor run (5 and a 20 and a 50uF new ASC blue audiophile type internal) and other major changes, the sound is tight and fast, fast, fast. It amp is also balanced now (I did this about 5 months ago), which made a big difference. It has been an interesting journey. I tend to hold on to equipment and modify it until I get what I want (if the quality is there to begin with). The case with the SLA 70, which I bought in 91 or 2 (one of the first Dennis put out) and changed opt's two times and did many chages, just ran out of power. This is not the case with the Six Pacs. When done right they have way more than enough energy to excite the living area with real sounding live music.ja in clear and blue skied, Tucson, AZ

...the SixPacs beyond their stock state. Here's another mod that I heard about from a SixPac owner in NC. He put Kimber .22uF 600v bypass caps on each of the large power supply electrolytics, the ones that protrude out from the chassis. He first soldered a couple ring termnals on the .22uF cap leads, unscrewed the ternimals from the electrolytic caps and attached the .22uF bypass caps then screwed the terminals back onto the electrolytics. I suppose other brands of .22uF would work just as well as these are not in the audio signal path. He happened to have the Kimber .22uF film caps available in his parts collection. He also said something about having to unattach the choke on one side in order to get to the cap screws. You don't need to disconnect it, just take it loose from the chassis temporarily.

I disconnected the electrolytics in mine, which is better than bypassed. Though bypassing can help, that it would take it to the level of no electolytics would be doubtful. Those inductors are very hard to get out. A standard tool does not work. You need a heavy duty pair of large industrial needle nose pliers.ja in clear and cooling, Tucson, AZ
