In Reply to: Another slight difficulty: how many owners of Blu-ray players are currently interested in audiophile labels ? posted by oscar on April 25, 2007 at 09:47:32:
I believe there are 3 or 4 concert Blu-ray releases with a few more to come in the near future. If I were an audiophile label, I'd gauge my plans on how they sold. Also, I'm sure someone like Dr AIX could pose a question on his site re: the current enthusiasm of his customers for the new formats and get their opinions on possible HD format releases by his label.I'd have to say that the desire for concerts/studio recordings on Blu-ray, as opposed to movies, will take a while to catch on before smaller labels invest the money to put out product.
As an aside, the draw for artists featured on the AIX Recordings label (just as an example) is going to be dwarfed by headliners in the "pop" music world. But at what point do the smaller labels bite the bullet and say "Fuck it! I'm taking the plunge and delivering the highest quality audio and video for my artists on Blu-ray."? Or do they ever?

Follow Ups:
I only have three (3) Bluray concerts with: 640K DD, 16/48 PCM, and "DTS-HD" (probably a lossy 1536K DTS) soundtracks. Nine Inch Nails has a 24/48 soundtrack in "lossless" (?) TrueHD but my player only supports 2-channel TrueHD and NIN isn't my favorite band. The format war is still going. Rumors of Wal-Mart procuring millions of cheap Chinese made HD-DVD players might be a threat to Blu-Ray creating even more uncertainty (anyone remember what happened with the SACD/DVD-A holy wars ?).

Wal-Mart has issued a statement which basically denies they ordered those items and one of the companies involved in the development has said that they "want" to do business (ie: they are not currently) with Wal-Mart -- or anyone else, for that matter.
