Where I live in Jerusalem,Israel-it seems unlikely that I will be able to find any of the 5 brands of DVD+RW recommended by Tascam. The only ones that I see locally are Verbatim. Will these work? Thanks,Raanan

Follow Ups:
The DVRA1000's firmware contains a list of 'supported' brands and types. When you insert a supported disc the machine brings you right away to the format menu.
When you insert an unsupported disc the machine points this out to you and then asks if you want to format anyway.
I used a bunch of 'unsupported' TDK DVD+RWs. No problems so far.
Then I found that the Philips discs of the local supermarket were actually 'supported' by the Tascam. Tested a few. No problems. I then bought a lot of them. Since then only problems. Go figure.
We have to face it: the DVRA1000's disc management is utter crap. Makes it nearly-useless in live conditions.
All you can do is try (but do stick to DVD+RWs limited to 1-4x speed, faster discs definitely are not supported), keep the discs clean, only use them once, and backup often.
Werner,Your TDKs are "officially" supported-mentioned in the DVRA1000 manual as one of 5 recommended brands.
I have recorded on Verbatim discs-about 50% of the time I get write error 60 messages-in which case,I go back and record again.
I received advice to format 3 times-does not help.If I keep on getting write errors on the TDK discs I will try elevating the machine to a top shelf, and if that doest not help-I will try using a fan during recording.
As I do not do "live" recording,I can live with the "occasional" mishaps. The quality of the recording is better than anything I have yet experienced in digital-by far, make that by a mile.

No. The machine supports a particular type of TDKs, without specifying which ones. My TDKs are a different type, apparently, and the machine does not acknowledge them. No problem.

Incessant net browsing has shown that there have been others who have spotted inconsistencies in the otherwise excellent manual. One of them was indeed the issue of the choice of inputs for recording an analog input to DSD.So,apparently I found myself in good company(of an audio reviewer-if that may be termed good).
Thanks.

...will record to DVD+R or DVD+RW. That is so basic to the recording process that it has to be included in the manual. If your reference is to a specific brand, and whether or not people have had a bad experience with that brand, you should say so. But as it stands, it sounds like you haven't bothered to examine the manual to find out what type of DVD disks the recoreder uses/supports.
Forgive me for appearing churlish on this...I try to give help online all the time (and did re: the BNC issue) but I get annoyed if I think people are wasting others time in lieu of simply referencing the manual. FWIW, my close friends and family get the same response if they try the same thing. I tell them to please read the manual first, then ask. The answer "I don't like manuals" doesn't cut it with me.

Churlish?
But,I stated specifically in my post that the 5 recommended brands are NOT available where I live.

...I guess I read your heading question without reading the post...either that or what you said just went right past me. Truth of the matter is though that I was influenced by the knowledge that dispite all the noise on usenet, "brands" don't matter very much. Most work just fine if the machine is rated to use that type. The exceptions are some of the very old (circa 1997-98) professional CD recorders which can be formulation sensitive.
Harry,You are one of the good guys here.
I really have to control myself not to react to the unsavory types.
