I think my spindle motor is pooched. I insert a disc and it spins maybe an 1/8 of a turn and no more. The laser appears to be trying to do its thing followed by a few clickity clicks and eventually the infamous "Disc Error" report. I can however "jump start" the motor by spinning the white cap on the transport lid which eventually yields the same result. Any recommendations? If anyone has a repair manual could you give me a part number? Thanks.
Follow Ups:
Has anyone had experience with a Toshiba SD-9200 or Integra DPS-9.1 that does not spin up discs, but not from a bad motor, from the boards not sending a signal or something to run it? I purchased a DPS-9.1 with intentions of replacing what we thought was a faulty drive motor, as they are prone to do. I purchased a Toshiba SD-3750 based on the info in this thread, and swapped mechanisms, a perfect fit! But the motor still did not spin up, so I put my DPS-9.1 mechanism in the Toshiba, and it spun right up, with its cable, so its something on/in the board! Any ideas? thx in advance-howie
I do, and I had the exact same problem as you. However, the shop manual was useless because the laser assembly needed replacing. It cost me $200 to fix at my local Toshiba repairer. I could try sending you the manual but it's on a cd and it's huge!
Thanks for the heads up - my assumptions were perhaps wrong. There was a manual link posted in another thread but it's dead. I found a few sources for a manual online. I'd like to repair it but your quote is approaching used market prices for a working one, so I may keep it as a spare. It's the best (Redbook) player I've ever owned for the money. It also doubles as a decent DVD player ;)
Ok, it took a bit of sleuthing but I've got some valuable information.1) Link to service manual:
