i don't see how dual disc, which treats dvd-a as an afterthought, is really relevant to high-rez. it's a maketing gimmick that's trying to save sales by primarily adding video content to a cd. the developers of dualdisc get the option of high-rez for free as a result of the format, not because they have a belief in its intrinsic value...i agree with you about responding to kekl, though. but the fact that i refer to him as a moron doesn't meanm i take him seriously. in fact, i'm fairly sure morons in general are not taken seriously..;) my frustrations boil over, though, because it seems that the only time there's any activity on this forum is when kekl rouses up teresa and all hell breaks loose. there's nothing of value at all in reading the kekl/teresa/dave555/vinyldude battles. it's not even entertaining anymore....
Follow Ups:
... for the most part the DVD-Audio manufacturer's are now making their releases as DualDisc.I also do not think it is an afterthought for those who actually include DVD-Audio (if it was, they would release them in Dolby Digital instead). Definitely Silverline takes their DVD-Audio DualDisc releases seriously.
What I would like is a site, equivalent to www.sa-cd.net, which lists only those DualDiscs that contain DVD-Audio, or at leasts details the contents of the discs - right now it is difficult to know whether a particular album contains it or not (though of course if the label is Sony, then it certainly does not...).
I listen in 2 channel and I don't care for folddowns, but a high resolution multi-channel folddown is much better than Dolby Digital. The site should only list DualDiscs if they have a DVD-Audio track.
I would like to see something along these lines:
*** check one ***
___ DVD Audio ____ DVD Audio + CD _____ DualDisc
Advanced Resolution Surround Sound: 96kHz 24Bit - DVD Audio players
Advanced Resolution Stereo: 192kHz 24Bit (for example) - DVD Audio players
Surround Sound: dts 5.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 - DVD Video players
Stereo: Dolby Digital, or 48kHz 24 Bit (for example) - DVD Video players
Video: "names of the music videos" - All DVD players
Lyrics - All DVD playersPlus pictures of the release and reviews as well. I hope someone is interested in starting such a site.
I believe that SA-CD.net is a great resource for that format and the lack of a similar site for DVD-Audio content is hurting its success.Ideally I would like to see a service that addresses both hi-def formats together because at this point I think that the percentage of cross-over listeners is pretty high.
Stephen from sa-cd.net has indicated interest in doing so in an old email correspondence but has said that the main obstacle is time since he has pretty much his hands full keeping up with SACD.
If I had the time I would consider doing it, but my regular job keeps me busy enough (and I spend my work time programming, so during my time off I would rather do something else...)
