Well, Denons are a bit harder to run this way than Pioneer-based machines which can be set to default to DVD-A and 2-channel. Even then, there is often uncertainty about whether you are getting a mix-down or a true stereo source.

I have a little 6" LCD monitor (circa $120) that I keep for accessing menus. That lets me pick what I want without a big monitor.
