almmost all DVD-As have different top level menues and the default seems to be MCH. I cannot seem to get my denon 3910 to default to 2 ch DVD-A tracks, it always plays in MCH if i just hit the play button. It works flawlesly with SACD, all SACDs will play 2ch when i hit play.

True terror is to wake up one morning and discover that your high school class is running the country.
Follow Ups:
Well, Denons are a bit harder to run this way than Pioneer-based machines which can be set to default to DVD-A and 2-channel. Even then, there is often uncertainty about whether you are getting a mix-down or a true stereo source.I have a little 6" LCD monitor (circa $120) that I keep for accessing menus. That lets me pick what I want without a big monitor.

...as I also only listen to stereo only with my 3910, is that when I get a new DVD-A disc I hook up my 9" portable TV to the player in order to see the menus, write down on a sticky note the remote-button-steps you need to make to play the stereo tracks, then put a sticky note on the inside of the DVD-A. Saves guessing down the road. A pain, yes, but it helps that I tend to buy DVD-As in bunches, so I only have to hook the TV up occasionally.
I usually hit the "top menu" button on my remote and pray (someone had enough sense to code the DVD-A sensibly)
... if someone actually went to the trouble to write firmware that would:
1. parse the audio_ts and video_ts directories on the DVD-A
2. determine which is the best stereo format (in order of preference, MLP 2.0, LPCM 2.0 on audio_ts, LPCM 2.0 on video_ts, downmix MLP 5.1, ...)
3. play that as a default if the user has specified that they only want to listen in 2chunfortunately, this is probably unlikely to happen, esp. as dvd-a navigation and decoding is now typically embedded in the chipset and not handled by firmware at all
until that happens, the best approach is to maintain a spreadsheet or some sort of list that lists the location of the stereo track for each title (ie. MLP 2.0 is in Group 2, or the best stereo track is actually the LPCM 2.0 track on video_ts) - i believe there is even a web site out there that tracks this info but i can't seem to find it just then.
and of course the format is dead so nobody cares (insert evil grin) :-)
